Bike Stop's Best Dainese Gloves

A pair of gloves is one of the most crucial pieces of gear you can wear after a helmet. Like with most things in life your hands are critical to motorcycling with steering, throttle, clutch and braking all being taken care of on the handlebars. A good pair of gloves will not only protect you in the event of a slide, but also allow you to use those controls effectively.

We’re all human, and the first things you put out in the event of a spill are your arms, and naturally your hands and wrists take the brunt. Not only do gloves need to take care of the speed and sliding, they also need to divert energy from going through your wrists and up into your collarbones. Scaphoid protection is a relatively new to gloves, however sliders at the bottom of your palms make injury to this bone in your wrist much less likely – crucial as it’s typically a nightmare for it to heal properly. The sliders also mean less shock travels up your arms reducing the risk of a collar bone break.

Dainese, as with most other types of gear, make a wide range of high-quality gloves for a large number of use cases, from hardcore trackdays to touring. Traditionally gloves have been made of leather for abrasion protection, however new technologies nowadays mean that leather is but one of a multitude of materials you’ll find in a modern motorcycle glove.

If you’re heading to the track look no further than the Druid 3 pair of gloves. Available in a range of fetching colour schemes, these gloves forgo weather protection and focus on crash protection and feel – carbon and thermoformed plastic make up the armour/sliders across the knuckles and the vulnerable scaphoid. For track use the armour is crucial as all you’ll be hitting is hard tarmac so being able to impact and slide effectively is going to increase your odds of walking away without serious injury. Currently available at a shade over £160 from us these are an excellent premium option for the track.

If you’re a lady looking to head to the track then Dainese have got your back with the Carbon 3 Lady. Containing a similar set of features to the Druid 3 they present a great argument for themselves as a more budget-friendly race glove, available for a touch over £125 from Bike Stop. A slightly less extensive carbon knuckle than the Druid 3 is the main feature missing, along with a slider on the little finger. The scaphoid protection remains in place.

For less track-focused, but still sporty riding then the Impeto gloves are a great option – again available in some great colour schemes these forgo the carbon knuckles and thermoformed scaphoid protection of the Druid 3s with a price to match the cut in features; currently available at Bike Stop for just under £90. If you’re looking for a solid glove with a feature set that’ll complement enthusiastic road riding these’ll suit you just fine.

Perhaps you prefer the freedom of a glove without the long cuff – the Carbon 3 Short is the one to beat from Dainese – including a carbon knuckle for great protection as well as extensive mesh ventilation for warm summer days these could be ideal for summer blasts on the road. Being short gloves they’re not advisable to take on track however.

If you’re looking for a glove that’ll take care of you when the weather gets challenging then the Nembo could be the glove for you – including a Goretex ‘Grip’ membrane for breathable waterproofing that’s more effective than a conventional Goretex membrane thanks to full welding to the glove layers. Armoured knuckles, scaphoid protection and reflective inserts all add up to a great glove for the road, come rain or shine, currently available from Bike Stop for a whisker under £135.
