Do I need a Motorcycle Intercom, and if so, which one is best for me? - by Biker Kaz

My answer would be yes.

You might think that an intercom is so that you can pair your device up with another rider(s) so you can communicate whilst riding but intercoms are so much more than that now, you can connect them to your phone so you can answer calls whilst riding, connect to your sat nav and have spoken instructions come through your earpiece so you do not have to keep looking down at your sat nav and you can listen to music whilst riding too.

Now my other half and I have intercom that we pair to each other when riding. Some say that it is not a good idea to be paired to your other half whilst riding and there are many a time when I would agree with those people. I have been known to switch the intercom off whilst riding when my other half has been annoying me so much but most of the time it is a godsend especially when riding to new places and the sat nav is involved.

Now when we are paired up we generally do not chit chat, as when riding you tend to use a lot of concentration and it is nice to be in your own thoughts without someone giving you a running commentary of what is happening around you, but if you’re on a group ride out or touring, we find them invaluable.

If we have a look at some of the intercoms available, you can make your own mind up as to whether you feel it a necessity when riding.
