Knox - British Motorcycle Gear

One of the finest up and coming brands we sell is the Lake District-based brand of Knox. They’ve been around since the 80s, but risen to fame with their remarkable Handroid gloves in 2009 and have since gone from strength to strength. Let’s check out some of their latest kit for 2021.

It wouldn’t be a list of Knox’s best gear if it didn’t include the Handroid glove; now in its fourth iteration that has improved on the original design but retains those key features that made the original so good. The floating armour over the knuckles increases flexibility and reduces fatigue, TPU scaphoid protection reduces the risk of wrist fractures and the elegant Boa closure system is one of the best there is, bar none. Use of a ratchet and tough wire means genuine one-handed operation. Very much a premium product but some of the best hand protection you’ll find.

Knox originally started out with motorcyclist armour, but nowadays you can find this tech trickling into gear that belongs as much in the pub as on the bike. MicroLock, their latest armour, is a superb option for the road and track rider, with a unique level of flexibility that firms up under impact.

The Urbane Pro 2 is the latest iteration of the jacket that can be many things to many people. Lightweight enough to fit under a jacket, yet entirely robust enough to be worn on its own, this is a jacket that can be adapted to hot summer riding, or sitting as a tough mid-layer below waterproof/windproof outer layers. Fully armoured using Level 1&2 armour in the back, shoulders and elbows, with high tenacity stretch nylon in an arrowmesh pattern providing great abrasion protection. There’s even a fitted waterproof outer layer available for those who don’t want to mix and match; potentially the ideal British summer jacket.

Matching up to the Urbane Pro 2 are the new Urbane Pro gloves, a full-on summer glove that’ll suit urban riding to a tee. A full mesh back, scaphoid and innovative breathable knuckle armoured based on MicroLock armour make this a short glove that offers great protection and convenience.

Rounding off Knox’s Urbane range is the Urbane Trouser, sporting a subtle look, excellent breathability and great protection. MicroLock armour is included at the hip and knee, while high tenacity stretch nylon throughout and an arrowmesh pattern allowing breathability while retaining abrasion, tear and cut resistance.

Knox Motorcycle Jeans

Potentially being the only motorcycle jeans you need, the new Knox Shield jeans deal with many of the pitfalls of conventional aramid fibre jeans. Made from Spectra denim, these jeans do away with needing a layer of protection below the denim, while even providing water repellence and drawing heat away from your legs when it gets warm. Low-profile MicroLock armour at the hip and knee round off the protection. An ideal bit of kit for riding during the British spring and summer when you want some casual style and don’t want to compromise on protection.

Alongside their excellent MicroLock armour, Knox carry a few full-on back protectors to wear under other gear. The Aegis features open cell tech to enhance breathability, while honeycomb shock absorption floats along the spine to provide impact protection. A neat mounting system for a MicroLock chest armour piece is a neat addition, preventing the need to place it under a jacket each time you unzip it.
