TOP 10 - ICONIC MOTORCYCLE RACING
HELMETS
Ok more seriously.....
10 - Shane
Byrne
Shakey has
had quite a few designs over the years but the twin stripes became the
signature look and this helmet from 2015 is classic Shakey. If you look around
you’ll see there are quite a few of these on the roads.
9 - Jorge
Lorenzo
Jorge has
kept his red cross throughout his MotoGP career and I must admit it looks
pretty cool.
8 - Marco
Simoncelli
Another
twin striped classic, it just a shame that Marco intentionally had it made
oversized to make it easier to get on and off because of his hair. The trouble
is this meant it couldn’t do its job when he needed it.
7 - Kevin
Schwartz
Kevin was
always a popular rider with the fans and in the 90s this helmet design was the
coolest on the grid even though it looks a bit dated now.
6 -
Giacomo Agostini
I wonder
why the Italian legend picked this colour scheme! It has to be said he always
looked very cool in it.
5 -
Valentino Rossi
The doctor
changes his helmet like most people change their clothes but I’ve picked two
Rossi classics which only he could get away with.
4 - Mike
Hailwood
The famous
gold, red and white design of one of the classiest riders ever to win the world
championship.
3 - Phil
Read
Absolutely
timeless! I still see people wearing this helmet on the roads today, and it
still looks great, but it always looked it’s best on Phil.
2 - Barry
Sheene
Truly
iconic just like the man himself. Barry even had a hole drilled in the front at
one point so he could smoke a cigarette on the grid - so 70s.
Drum
roll...............
1 - Joey
Dunlop
For most
motorcycle fans, including me, this is the ultimate classic. No messing, no
frills and 100% Joey. The bright yellow design made it easy to spot wherever
the fans stood. It’s just a shame we didn’t get to see it for longer.
So there
you have it that’s my top 10! I know there are plenty I’ve not included, such
as Marquez’s Ant or Kenny Roberts yellow eagle which will upset some (not many)
but I don’t think anyone will moan about my number one. Even if you don’t like
the colour it is truly iconic like the man who wore it.
