The Shoei Range Explained

Helmet ranges are forever expanding and sometimes it can be difficult to know which one serves what purpose. Shoei have one of the biggest ranges of helmets, so in today's blog I thought I would explore the variety, so next time you are looking for a new Shoei, you will have a better idea of what to look for!

Shoei GT Air

RIDE STYLEAdventure, Sports, Touring
MAIN MATERIALAIM Shell Construction
HELMET LININGFully Removable
HELMET TYPEFull Face
PINLOCKPinlock Provided

The Shoei GT Air is targeting mainly the Sports Touring market. It's easily just as at home being used on winding twisty roads as on long stretches of motorway. It has many neat features suited to make touring as effortless as possible. It has a drop down sun visor which can be adjusted with a slider on the side of the helmet, this is especially useful when riding at sunset! There are also cut outs in the helmet by the ears, this is designed that way so that an intercom system can be easily fitted, if you are like me and don't have any friends, it's useful for listening to music too!

Shoei NXR

MAIN MATERIALAIM+ Shell Construction
HELMET LININGFully Removable
HELMET TYPEFull Face
PINLOCKPinlock Provided

The NXR is aimed more towards track and sporty road riding, although personally I think it can be used for pretty much anything. It lacks the sound deadening and sun visor of the GT Air, but it is extremely light weight which makes it comfortable over long journeys. The Shoei NXR comes in a large variety of different designs and colours, so if you like to be an individual, there should be a style to suit you!

Shoei X-Spirit 3

RIDE STYLERace & Track, Sports
MAIN MATERIALAIM+ Shell Construction
HELMET LININGFully Removable
HELMET TYPEFull Face
PINLOCKPinlock Provided

The X-Spirit 3 is Shoei's flagship helmet and is used by many of the top motorcycle racers, including Marc Marquez! The helmet is aimed at serious racing/track riders. The aerodynamic design keeps the riders head stable at high speeds and the 3 inlets at the front plus an exhaust vent at the back maximises airflow through the helmet. The X-Spirit 3 comes in a variety of plain colours and race reps if you want a bit of colour and flair.

Shoei Neotec 2

RIDE STYLEScooter, Commuter & Urban, Sports, Touring
MAIN MATERIALAIM+ Shell Construction
HELMET LININGFully Removable
HELMET TYPEFlip Up
PINLOCKPinlock Provided

If you are after a touring helmet and a helmet you could use to commute with everyday, look no further. The Neotec 2 is perfectly suited to touring, incorporating features such as the drop down sun visor and ear cut outs to mount an intercom. However it has a party trick, it's a flip front helmet, you can lift up the front of the helmet, which is particularly useful if you want to cool off at the traffic lights or pay for fuel without taking your helmet off at petrol stations.

Shoei RYD

RIDE STYLENew Biker, Scooter, Commuter & Urban, Touring
MAIN MATERIALAIM+ Shell Construction
HELMET LININGFully Removable
HELMET TYPEFull Face
PINLOCKPinlock Provided

The Shoei RYD is the entry level helmet in Shoei's full face range, it is only entry level by price however. The RYD still incorporates the same lightweight multi composite AIM shell construction of its more expensive siblings, although lacks some of the more upmarket touring features such as a sun visor or flip front. The RYD is a perfect helmet if you just want  basic no thrills day to day use, but with the same protection as some of the more expensive helmets in the Shoei line up.

Shoei J-Cruise

j-cruise-white_1

RIDE STYLECruiser & Custom, Scooter, Commuter & Urban
MAIN MATERIALAIM Shell Construction
HELMET LININGFully Removable
HELMET TYPEOpen Face
PINLOCKNot Compatible

The Shoei J-Cruise is basically a GT Air but with the front cut off and replaced with a large visor. This means you get the same features of the GT Air, the sun visor, intercom compatibility and lightweight construction. It is aimed at the urban/scooter market and focuses on ease of use. This however comes at the cost of protection, the J-Cruise lacks the chin protection that the full face and flip front helmets have.

Shoei Hornet ADV

RIDE STYLEAdventure, Touring
MAIN MATERIALAIM Shell Construction
HELMET LININGFully Removable
HELMET TYPEFull Face
PINLOCKPinlock Provided

The Hornet ADV is aimed at mainly the growing adventure touring market. The peak can sometimes cause turbulence at higher speeds, but this style of helmet is quite popular for adventure style bikes. It can also be used for enduro use as the visor can be detached and you can wear goggles over the top.
